We’re gonna interrupt the boring topic of politics with something we are all excited about and connected to. Music! And if you’re not connected to that…I’m not sure you’re human.

But seriously we all have memories associated with music, and we actually share that connection with so many people. I think there are a lot of positive things to be said about technology providing accessibility to…ANY music. Doesn’t really matter how old or obscure, for the most part I can find any song with a few minutes of research, usually less than that.
That’s special honestly. We can read about the artists and their stories, so many of them talk about why they wrote different songs at different points in their life. We can feel that in the lyrics, we can vibe with the soul of the music, if you will.
Speaking of jiving with good tunes, I can’t help but think of my brother and sister making CD’S for me of all their favorite songs. My mom did it too, and all those songs still stick with me today. From the Beatles to Bob Dylan, from blues to John Mayer, and from Bill Withers to Stevie Wonder.

It brings me back to that feeling in my first car, a 97 Honda accord, when I slid each of these discs in my CD player. I listened to entire albums on the road. And what’s more, I showed SO many people the music I loved. I gave people rides all the time, in fact some of us just rode around for fun. And I always volunteered to drive? Why? Because I got to play the bops.
I had an old friend recently message me, thanking me for showing them so much good music. I teared up a little bit as they shared some of the memories we had together with the tunes. They were listening yesterday and reminiscing about our fun times. And the cool thing is, we both share that! Every time Bob Dylan plays, and unfortunately Taylor Swift, I think of them!

I throwback to opening my passenger door for everyone because there was no handle. I think of cruising around good old elkhart County and adventuring Michigan. I laugh about how we made silly faces at people as we drove. We would honk my stupid horn, which sounded like the oldest horn in the world. Very squeaky. I remember driving WAY to fast and getting in to all sorts of trouble as well. It’s all part of the journey, and it’s good to think back sometimes.
Melancholy definitely seems to dominate us in adult life sometimes. We get caught in routine that we are bored of, and young adults like me are still trying to figure out how to be okay with monotony. To find the beauty in the everyday little things. I’m not there yet but any means, but music brings me beyond this time and into the past present and future. I love it so much because it has so much to say, you can dance and sing along, or you can just chill and go to your dream world.
Music is all throught Church History, all throughout Jewish History, in fact it goes back as far as time itself to the angels serving God. God loves beauty, and that’s why He made us as creatures who love music in His image. Chanting and singing to God is good for the soul. And so is singing about our hardships, doubts, and fears. Because all human experience ties to our faith. We can all identify with the ups and downs, and find hope and love in the chorus and rhythm of life.

Our heart beats in rhythm just like our greatest enemy or our best friend’s. It reminds us that we all are in the same story. We’re all human and trying to get along and better ourselves. Music makes us look beyond ourselves and shakes us out of the monotonous. And I believe it gives us hope, helps us cope with emotions, and connects us to things beyond us.
Music can be used as an anthem for change, it can express any cultures native tounge, and for all of us it is slightly different and unique. But no matter what it is, there is so much to explore. There’s so much to throwback to, and for musicians there’s always more practice. It’s one of the biggest influences in our lives, whether we realize it or not. And the beauty is, it will never end.
